Several people have asked which "Pad" I recommend for basic Internet email and surfing.... I love the Samsung products - Galaxy TAB S2 9.7" is fantastic with ANDROID operating system with embedded & licensed Microsoft Word and Excel included.

Another option to consider is: ONDA V919 Air Tablet with new Android 4.4 and Windows10 all on a dual boot pad...

BTW - if you need Microsoft Office interoperability you can download the free Open Office for Windows, Linux and OS X and others. Of course the Play Store has free Word, Excel etc apps you can download to your "Pad".
BEFORE you buy a "pad" be sure you answer the following questions:
WHAT APPLICATION(S) will be expected to run on the "PAD" operating system?
Navionics boating apps? Apple or Android.
Garmin boating apps? Apple or Android
OpenCPN? Apple, Windows or a flavor of Linux
Fugawi? Windows
HOW WILL YOU "NETWORK" VARIOUS DEVICES TO COMMUNICATE OR SHARE DATA?
Example: AIS information? Be it via NMEA0183 or NMEA2000 - checkout Actisense
Or GPS information to wireless broadcast using WiFi? - checkout Milltechmarine
Or a RedPort Halo WiFi? - checkout Youtube or homepage at RedPort
WHICH MARINE NAVIGATION CHARTS ARE SUPPORTED ON YOUR DESIRED APP & SOFTWARE?
Last but not least by any measure of the imagination - WHAT IS YOUR BACKUP COMPUTER, COMMUNICATIONS AND DEVICES? WILL THERE BE INTEROPABILITY BETWEEN PRIMARY AND SECONDARY DEVICES? MIGHT CONSIDER BUYING TWO UP-TO-DATE DEVICES.
PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE PORT WITHOUT A DELORME INREACH SE OR EXPLORER GPS TRACKER & COMMUNICATOR.
YOUR LIFE MAY DEPEND ON IT.
I also recommend sharing a bluetooth keyboard for the Delorme and "Pad" - contact me for the model etc.
Without clear answers to the above questions you are shooting blind into a deep dark hole...
Smooth seas...
Thinking about a 2016 NWP expedition - I recommend a qualified shore support person.
